Progress Update #1
A custom Overwatch Escort map built in Unreal Engine 4, inspired by the views and landscapes of the Zion National Park, located in Utah.
This map was designed to set itself apart from others in Overwatch through its strong emphasis on differing verticality, with the entire map moving up a mountain, encouraging different methods of both horizontal and vertical mobility.
*Build requires a Windows device and does not require Unreal Engine. To run, download “Zion_Build.zip”, extract to a location of your choice, open “WindowsNoEditor” and run “Zion.exe.”
Concept: The story of the map surrounds the Overwatch comic Legacy, taking place many years after Ana’s eye was shot out by Widowmaker. No location was given in the comic itself, so I decided to make Zion the setting. The third Attacker and Defender spawns emphasize the area that Ana was shot, with the Defender spawn being where Widowmaker was, and the Attacker being where Ana was. The balcony of one building can be seen when standing on the other.
The map started from a design document and sketch**, and gradually grew in complexity as a result of constant iteration through playtesting with others.
**Sketch was a first pass and is not representative of the final version displayed.
